Happy New Year!!!! Big love to all of you.
I’m off to a good start this year, focusing on the importance of positive energy and thoughts. Here is the most amazing secret I want to share with you today. In the words of Abraham/Hicks: “You are the creator of your reality.” You can be, do, or have anything you want”. You don’t have to accept a reality which does not please you. Even if your current reality is not what you want, this can change on a dime.
This message might sound implausible! “What?” you say “I feel tired, sick, low, in pain. I need more money, more energy, more time. How can I feel better? This wasn’t my choice.” I am here as evidence, yes, yes, yes, you do have a choice. And isn’t that exciting!!
Reach for Good Feeling Thoughts
Maybe you only take one step toward feeling better. Maybe that one step is to think “Anything is possible.” Reach for just one thought that feels good. Just one thought about something you love, and give it all you’ve got. Let that feeling of happiness fill you. Stay there. Enjoy it. You have a choice in the thoughts you think.
If you are happy, more happiness comes to you. Have you ever had a bad day and things just keep getting worse? The same can happen with good days. You can think yourself into good days.
Rampage of Joy
As a recent experiment, I decided I would spend time every day doing “rampages of joy” which I learned from Abraham Hicks. I pick any subject which makes me feel good. It can be as simple as loving where I live, or as specific as how much I love my child. In this rampage I write or say all the things that feel good.
For example… “I love this amazing area where I live. It’s beautiful. The air is clean. The mountains a magical. I love how good I feel living here. Life is easy. There are many wonderful people. I have great friends. I have tons of fun. I love swimming in the lakes and ponds. I love skiiing in the mountains. I have great doctors. There are so many farms to find healthy food.” and so on… I focus only on the things which make me feel great.
This experiment has had amazing results in my life. It taught me that I can reach for happiness in all circumstances.
Looking at Injuries with Gratitude
Learning how to reach for happiness became especially important over the summer when I sustained a bad back and hip injury. I am not sure from what exactly — it was a perfect storm of circumstances.
As I lay on the floor in pain for many months, unable to go about my daily activities, I would think about happiness. I meditated. I accepted that any plans I had previoulsy made would simply have to change. Any expectations about goals had to shift.
At first this was frustrating. A back injury was certainly not on my to-do list! But my body was telling me “this is how it is.” Neither good nor bad, just truth.
During this time, my trainer friend at Crossfit gave me some advice which changed my world. He said “Adapt and overcome. Maybe you can’t do the things you wanted to do. Big deal. There are a dozen of other things you can do. Inury is the opportunity to master something else.” Brilliant.
The Body is a Teacher
Rather than be upset, angry or discouraged, this helped me focus on learning from my body. The body is the most beautiful, amazing teacher. If we judge our bodies, we feel really unhappy because we are going against “self”. But if we listen without judgement we can be grateful for what our body tells us. (Yes, I even talk to my body now! And tell it how thankful I am to learn from it. Try it out, you may find it feels very good.)
Through this journey, I realized that my body can be experiencing something — back injury, sickness, hypothyroidism, depression, adrenal fatigue — but my mind and spirit can still be happy. This was a key to recovery and the future.
The injury wasn’t a limitation, it was a gift. An opportunity to master something bigger. To always reach for happiness, in any situation.
Just like having Hypothyroidism was a gift that gave me the chance to share my story. Whatever is happening in your life can be a chance to do the same.
