Hypothyroid and Adrenal Treatment 101: Finding a Good Doctor
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 4:43PM
Lizzy This is the single biggest obstacle in getting treatment for Hypothyroidism and Adrenal Fatigue, so I will likely write about it often. Many traditional doctors and Endocrinologists won't treat Hypothyroidism with natural desiccated thyroid medicine like Naturethroid. And many doctors don't understand or believe in Adrenal Fatigue. But don't let this discourage you, just find a good doctor who matches your needs.
Of course the question is "where, and how!?" Doctors who practice Integrative Medicine, like my doctor Dr. B, are a great starting place in your search. They have different approach to treatment and are likely to be more open to different treatment ideas. Especially if your labs fall in the range of "normal" like mine.
To find Integrative Medicine doctors in your area, a simple search online should yield good results. Or try your insurance provider directory under Specialists for Integrative Medicine. Save yourself time and frustration and call the doctor first to make sure they are a good fit. Here are the questions to ask:
• Does the doctor treat Hypothyroidism by symptoms not just by lab work
• If the doctor does go by lab work, does he/she look at the Free T3 lab over TSH?
• Does the doctor prescribe natural desiccated thyroid medicine like Naturthroid?
• Does the doctor treat Adrenal Fatigue?
If they answer "no" to any of these questions move along sister, you'll just experience heartache and frustration. The doctor who answers "yes" will hopefully be your new best friend.

First, this site has given me hope that one day, soon I will feel normal. And secondly, look normal again! I am absolutely appauled at the lack of knowledge doctors possess. I have worked in healthcare for a decade, prenursing and Bio Med major- all which have been cut short to my slow decline with diagnosed Hypo. I find myself going to battle with so many inconsiderate money hungry physicians who say "they no nothing about natural thyroid or t3 drugs" "tsh labs checks both t3 and t4". Unbelievable.
If anyone has any information that can lead me to a dr/endocrinlogist within the south west Lancaster, PA area vacinity that has stayed up to date after med school please let me know.
Thanks<3
